Jane Austen Tarot
For the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth, Lo Scarabeo celebrates the great writer with a unique Tarot deck that is sure to captivate her admirers around the world. The anniversary fell on December 16, 2025.

At first glance, one might think that Jane Austen’s writings do not lend themselves particularly well to the occult nature of Tarot. However, both her books and Tarot share an essentially identical message: the vital importance of balance in our daily lives. Tarot highlights the need for balance through its very structure. The Major Arcana are devoted to matters of the spirit, while the Minor Arcana address the smaller, more worldly aspects of life. The four suits embody all the elements.

In the Jane Austen Tarot, these four suits are represented as Candles, associated with passion, energy, and initiative; Cups, conveying love and emotional aspects; Pens, representing the rational, analytical, and intellectual side of life; and finally, Coins, embodying physical and tangible matters. Each evocative card is based on a character or scene from Austen’s works, yet no prior knowledge of her writings—or of Tarot—is required to use these cards.
