Description

Jet is formed from ancient trees that decomposed under high pressure millions of years ago. While both coal and petrified wood originate from trees, petrified wood forms crystals, whereas Jet forms a mineral-like substance, making it akin to a fossilized form of coal.

Although jet is a type of coal, it can be polished into a lustrous black gemstone and is well-suited for intricate carvings. It has been used for gemstone carving since ancient times, with the earliest known carvings dating back to around 10,000 BC.
